Fall Out

End of March

About four months ago, sometime in April, we got a new VP for Maintenance and Engineering as the current VP was promoted and we had a temporary promoted VP at the time. Anyway, right before this happened we lost one of our propulsion engineers. We are going to start with him because it seems important to note that he was getting tons of work thrown at him and I don’t think he liked his boss to much. Never the less it seemed okay that he was leaving, however at the same time there started rumors of going to Atlanta and closing Macon down because they were trying to get this brand new hangar up there.

End of April

Anyway the next person to go was the only reliability engineer left, the other one left in December before I came back. Why did I not start there? Well it seemed to distant and not relevant. So I asked the Reliability Engineer why he was leaving and he said it was because of all the rumors and the fact that Kenny actually left got him thinking about whether or not it was time to go. He was hired by delta and is working in one of their labs in Atlanta. If we were going to go to Atlanta anyway, why not get a higher paying job there right? Well about two weeks before he left is when we did get our new VP. This guy is strange to me, I don’t know if he knows how to soften anything. Basically he said if we don’t improve our maintenance we will no longer have a job. Though he included himself in this category how are you supposed to have people take this?? At this point I am not sure if the reliability engineer had left or not but he also informed us officially that they wanted all the Directors to go to Atlanta. What this means, however, is that all the support staff directly under the Directors will also be moving to Atlanta. They project having the hangar and moving to Atlanta as early as 6 months from then. No clear plan.

End of May

Next person to go was actually a transfer down to the floor. So he is still with the company just no longer in our department. This seems okay we didn’t really lose someone but it sure felt that way as he never comes up to visit or anything. I suppose he is really busy working on the aircraft and all. This guy was the Six Sigma Project and Trax Manager for the engineering group. Hmmm maybe they should hire someone soon? They end up giving me all the Reliability Engineers responsibilities which encompasses what used to be done by two people back before December.

End of June

Well this seems okay only down two actual engineers and a support guy. This next sweep hit really hard. Three people left in within a week! We lost both of our System Guys and a structures guy. The Structures left at the end of June (the last Friday of the month) and the Systems Engineers left the 3rd of July right before a Holiday… The reason these guys left is because we were definitely going to Atlanta. Well they saw this as an opportunity to move to where they want. The structures engineer stayed at a local company around here. The two systems went out of town, one to Continental in Houston where the rest of his family lives and then the other one went to Ohio where his relatives live, working with skybus.

End of July

Well this is not the end. So far we are down 6 people from June… one other from December. Almost at the end of July our director called us into a meeting to tell us the Manager of Engineering is going to be retiring from ASA and working on part time contracting with Delta for a couple of years and then officially retiring. This was the biggest shock of them all. The fact that our boss also wanted to make more money then what ASA was willing to give when we moved to Atlanta! It probably isn’t all about the money though as it seemed to me like he was being overwhelmed with work here. Coming in at 7:00 am and not leaving to 7:00 pm on some days it seemed. So here I am at ASA going to be working a week after my boss has left…. This is just so weird.

Not done yet.

There is also this SoCal blonde from Prescott’s Embry-Riddle who also works in the department. She also has decided to leave the company and will be leaving the Monday after me. She also has gotten a job at Continental in the interiors department. Her reason for leaving was pushed over the edge when our boss decided to leave....

And of course I will be leaving this Friday.
