New Camera

Well I almost went to Daytona Beach this weekend however this friday we had some bad weather and I think that come people got pushed to friday. Anyway at the last minute the night before I decided not to go. Maybe it was for the best as the people who were going to pick me up stayed up all night reading the new Harry Potter book. I ended up buying it too only because it really wasn't that expensive. It was $18 at walmart which is surprising to me.. as I thought almost all hardbacks were 20 dollars plus.

So while at walmart I decided to get a camera. I don't know much about cameras but this was my criteria. 100-200 dollars, has rechargable internal battery opposed to having to buy double A batteries. This is because I here people saying how the flash just drains the batteries from their camera. Um also it had to be about the size of my wallet in that I can put it in my pocket easily. So I ended up with this Sanyo camera which looks pretty cool. And this is the first pictures I took of my roommates cats. This one is Starbuck. I did edit the pictures a little bit.

This is Helo. Ya umm they are sometimes a pain as they are still kittens less then a year old. At night you here them running around the house sometimes it is hard to sleep. They all seem to like my room for some reason. Every time I get home they come in my room and play in it. Maybe it is because I have a stuff around my room like dice. magic cards and shoes! Also starbuck likes to lay on my computer keyboard.. I think he likes to do that because it is a little warm and everything.

Finally the last cat is boomer.

One mistake I did do I guess was not get an SD card. So right now I can only take about 10 pictures before I fill up the battery. I am told by one of my friends that you can get a SD card from walmart for about 15 dollars that is a 1 gig card. He said it might be a sale or just what they are going for now. I will have to look into it more. Next week I do plan on going down to the Warner Robins Air force base Air Museum and taking some pictures as they have a SR-71 down there. For future notice, this weekend I will be going to a wedding that one of my cousins is getting married. I don't remember which one but my Dad wants me to go. This is his part of the family down in Tennessee. GEEZE why is every week going to see family?? Maybe I am just crazy. This is also their first time flying for free on delta so we will have to see how that goes.

Quick Need to Type Quick!

Okay its late.. why because I went and saw Transformers. It was an okay movie very entertaining. The fights were not as good as my one friend abe thinks but oh well. Ya he likes the graphics over the storyline... well I like err I don't know the hot chick in the car maybe... I think it was an okay storyline if you ignored the whole cube thing. Anyway onto the next part.

Rest of Shoreleave in as few words as possible...
Poker, Dancing, Singing, Pirates, Beer, EEK FAMILY!! BAD..., RUN!!!

Uh okay Poker... Played the first night net 11 dollars. Played the Second night lost 4 dollars. Seems good to me for hours of entertainment until 4:30 am.

Dancing... Danced with this nice girl named Dawn who lives somewhere 30 minutes from ocean city. She very good looking, was way off on the age. I thought she was about 6 years younger then what she was. I think thats always a plus! Didn't really get to talk to my Asian Photographer friend this time.... maybe she was avoiding me or to engrossed into the con thing.

Singing... there is this group called Boogy Knights they are really good. They do song parodies kind of like what Weird Al does except just fantasy. Um other singing news there was a Karaoke which we didn't stay long for had to play poker after all. Some of the people were good. Some where... well drunk.

Pirates... uh well people dress up. There was this guy who looked exactly like Jack Sparrow you had to do a double take. Also boogy knights dresses up like pirates. Other people typically dress more sci-fiish with the always present klingon jail which Maybe I should have put britt into. Eh I dun think there is any other news on pirates.. no pirate party anymore it was disbanded by the hotel. Very sad.

Beer... I had lots of beers over the weekend. Mostly Flyingdog and Corona. Ya... umm giving blood and then drinking is very fun.

Family... Eh ya some of them were there I tried to avoid some people...

Baltimore: Shoreleave 29

For a while now I have been going to a Star Trek Convention known as Shoreleave. This convention is a fan run convention that is in its 29th year now at Baltimore. This year they had a couple of people that you might know.

Lets start out with one you will most likely know.

Nichelle Nichols
ST:TOS's
Lt. Uhura

She was very nice. I seen her a couple of years ago. She typically talks a bit of her experience on the show, a little bit of her life previous to the show then she goes into how she got the job. Finally she almost always ends talking about her impact on black women and society. She considers one of her greatest feats to be getting diversity into the space astronaut program. She had a lot of things to say and was very enjoyable.

Gary Jones
Stargate SG-1's
Chief Mst Sgt. Walter Harriman

&

Dean Haglund
X-Files and The Lone Gunmen's
Richard Langly

Were on at the same time when it was supposed to be just Gary Jones. These guys were very funny, what they did was a "Who's Line is it Anyway" Improv with the crowd. They geared it towards star gate as it was supposed to be more towards Stargate fans because of Gary Jones. He was kind of funny because he was talking about how all he does is email people and set the stargate symbols... Reminds me a lot like what Uhura does.. you know just talking to the computer!

Aaron Douglas
Battlestar Galactica's
Chief Galen Tyrol

This guy was pretty cool. I should have talked to him while he was at the pool but I didn't I assumed he wanted to relax because he had his book. During his talk he was saying how he loves to talk to fans and about the show and doesn't mind people bothering him. Heh for now he does anyway! He talked a lot about his little boy and how he spoils him when he comes over. He also wanted a beer! As he said so many times throughout his talk about it would be really cool if a fan had a beer for him! He also told us some more somber things like how "good" actors actually experience feelings while they are filming. He mentioned the rape scene when the Marines were raping Number Six on Battlestar Galactica which ends up only being a 30 second scene but they filmed the whole event and all the retakes and different angles took 12 hours. So he was saying how comes to these type of conventions to get away from the acting helps so that he doesn't drive a car off a cliff.

Lastly the only other person I saw was:

Claudia Christian
Babylon Five's
Cmdr. Susan Ivanova

I didn't actually go to her talk or anything. She was *cough* supposed to be a judge at the Masquerade on Saturday night. However, she was really really drunk. I don't think people caught on at first. She came out and talked a bit of thanks for being here and I dunno general babble on how she already started judging the crowd. It was kind of funny and could have been something that was just planned. I started to suspect that she was a little drunk towards the end of the speech when she went backstage instead of down to the judges table. Then came the kids judging contest. When she started ogling a couple of the kids from her seat I knew she was toasted. Then came this mother and a baby and she stopped at the judges table. She started holding the kid and I was like OMG Take the baby from the drunk women. Anyway eventually they get through the showing of the kids and to the awards. She gets on stage and starts to try and talk for each of the kids to the crowd and everything! It was horrible. Then between the kids and the adult competition she babbles some more and eventually they get her off stage. Never to be seen again that night.

Wow this turned out a bit longer then I thought it was going to turn out. I think I will post some more about shoreleave tomorrow. Remind me if I forget!

South Carlolina: Family Reunion

This past weekend I went to South Carolina where, obviously from the name, my extended family had a family reunion. They have one every year in this region of the United States. The event itself was a Table Rock State Park and then me and my grandmother stayed at Oconee State Park which is not to far away from the other one. They both are pretty similar where there is a lake that has a swimming area and then some canoeing (I swear I am spelling it right but the spell checker wants to say otherwise) or paddle boat, they also both have pavilion areas and cabin areas. This was just one of the many family reunions I have been to down here. Past events were more in North Carolina where me and my cousin helped apprehend a criminal! To bad this year my cousin could not make it he is out west in Santa Fe, NM. Uh see that trip here New Mexico.

So Thursday I left as soon as I could after work but I had to finish packing and didn't get out of the house until 6pm. The trip was supposed to be 4 hours according to google maps however due to traffic in the Atlanta area it ended up being a 5 hour trip, so I didn't get in till 11:00 there at the cabin. Oh ya here is the video for this blog... Okay I really didn't see any of the places in this video but the mountians do have alot of waterfalls that you can go visit and a couple of them are known as "Sliding Waterfalls" which this means you get to go down them kind of like a waterslide!!! They are really really fun but I didn't do any on this time around :-(

Needless to say nothing happened on Friday. Saturday I ended up getting up pretty early.. well okay (why doesn't the spell checker like okay!!!! WHY???)really this is normal time for me DURING the week! On the weekend I would rather have slept in! I got up anyway had breakfast got everyone else up and we were off the the reunion. Now I am sorry to bore you but I have a boring family. Nothing really happened we had hot dogs and hamburgers. Talked about all the people who are having medical problems... None of the younger group was there this time. I really wanted to see some people but they didn't come this year even though they probably live closer then I do. They called business and almost disbanded the family reunion because no-one was willing to be responsible for organizing the next one. Eventually someone did and they produced a date and place for the next one, and set that the following one was going to be in Florida... Maybe... Its my family anyways they probably won't remember what they said a week from now. One of the members brought their music group so we had some live music. They played all short songs that are American classics that are not really played anymore so I forget most of the words to the songs. End of reunion.

We went back to the cabin and tried to go down to the lake for some canoeing but they don't give out the paddles after 5:30!!! GAARRR!!! FRUSTRATING!!! Went back played some hand and foot (a card game.. don't worry if you don't know it not alot of people do. [man i swear they spell alot wrong too I thought there was only one l!!]). Me and my partner won! Mostly because the opposing team was to scared to pick up the pile and didn't want to get stuck with all of those card in their hand, this strategy however risky puts some serious point on the board though. Played dice with my aunt.. she won... I am not good at totally random stuff! Cards at least you have a bit more control over your options.

Saturday I tried sleeping in but my grandmother wanted to wake everyone up for no reason just because she decides she wants to make breakfast that no-one likes. Bah whatever... we go on the road to her brothers house. Takes about 30-45 minutes to get over there. They are not there... We go down to Bravard which takes another 30-45 minutes they are looking for a Sonic to eat at!!! So you want to tell me we are traveling an hour or more to look for a freaking sonic to eat at? They couldn't find one where they thought there was one so I vier them towards some barbecue place. It was pretty good. More frustrating things... Bah... Went to the waterfalls... more frustrating things... GGAAARRRHHHH STICK TOGETHER PEOPLE!!!! DON'T WANDER OFF! By the time we get back home it is freaking 9:30pm or something and I have a 4 hour drive to make. I eat more ice cream and go home. In the end I dub this weekend a big waste of money and time! You know its not that I don't like my family it just that they frustrate me when I am at the mercy of their planning and having to have to include them on decisions.

Houston, Tx

I live in Houston County (they like to pronounce is Houseton), well this weekend I went to Houston! Something I did not know about was that Houston is the 4th largest city in America. The first three are NYC (obviously), LA & Chicago, then comes Houston followed by Philly (YAY PHILLY). So I know a couple of people in Houston now. One is Solinard who recently got a job as one of NASA's Famous flight controllers. His roommate I also know from college who works with Lockheed Martin (I think), he confirms some of the experiments that they do up there on the space station. He says it's boring and just looking at a bunch of data and will be surprised if he is there for more then a year. And the third person I know is PiyoPiyo who has an internship with Continental.

In the morning Me, PiyoPiyo, and her roommate went to the Downtown Aquarium. This aquarium wasn't very big but it had some cool animals (the interesting ones were mostly not the fish). They had Huge Eels, Huge fish but the cool ones were the huge Horned Turtle or something, Some HUGE boa.. and then they also had two white tigers!!! The tigers were cool they looked like huge kitty cats they had a huge ball but they were just laying around they might have been to hot or something.

In the afternoon Solinard and his roommate finally showed up and we went out to eat at some steak place. It was good... I got steak hehe. Afterwards we went to go see a movie. We went and saw Evan Almighty. Over all the movie was okay its not like it was horrible or anything, the ending seems kind of forced and it doesn't flow as nicely as it could have, but the story was nice to see. The movie is better while watching it in my opinion because as a think back to the movie I don't think its as great as I did while watching it.

And thats basically what I did in Houston, other then the flying there and back and we talked alot about what people did at their jobs and stuff.
